One of the things you will find out I’m passionate about is health & nutrition. It hasn’t always been this way, five years ago I wouldn’t have thought twice about a Big Mac or drinking pop on a daily basis (in hindsight, I understand why I felt like crap after eating crap; hmm I see a pattern?).
I already have a pretty good foundation to build on, considering I grew up vegetarian, but a lot has changed over the last ten to fifteen years. Back then, soy was considered good for you, not anymore!
Now I’m no Doctor, but I’m a fast learner and am very perceptive (and skeptical) of everything around me. Luckily for me, I have my mom, studying to be a licenced nutritionist, to help me through this process.
Okay, GMO foods are basically organisms in food that have had their DNA altered in a lab to resist bugs, disease, increase shelf life etc etc…
Why is this bad?
The main ‘lab made’ crops are Soybean, Maize, Cotton, Canola, Squash, Papaya, Alfalfa, and Sugarbeet. Coming 2013? Rice!
Some pretty important foods, eh? Even if you don’t think you consume some, or any of these, they will find ways to sneak into you. For example, Canola oil is used in a wide range of packaged products (chips, mayo…) and sugarbeet is used in sugar production. Take a look at this list of ingredients you wouldn’t even think of :
So why isnt this ‘toxic’ substance being labeled on the food we feed ourselves and our children?
You may also ask yourself, why are obviously deadly substances like alcohol, cigarettes, and prescription meds legal when there is SO MUCH damning evidenced working against it??!!?!
Recently, there was vote in California for Prop 37. Prop 37 would require all food with any GMO ingredient to be labeled properly, as it is not at this time. The support for the bill was immense, with over 5 million dollars being donated; but that was miniscule compared to the financial contribution opposing to the bill. There was over 40 MILLION DOLLARS funded in opposition!!! The main contributors for the opposite include, but are not limited to, MONSANTO COMPANY ($7,100,500), E.I DUPONT DE NEMORES & CO. ($4,900,000), PEPSICO INC. ($2,145,400), BAYER CROPSCIENCE ($2,000,000), SYNGENTA CORPORATION ($2,000,000), KRAFT FOODS GLOBAL INC. ($1,646,000), COCA-COLA NORTH AMERICA ($1,455,500), NESTLE USA INC. ($1,315,600), GENERAL MILLS INC ($1,135,300)
Now why is it that some of the biggest chemical, agriculture, AND food companies have all band together against Prop 37? Kind of an odd mix, don’t you think?
What are they hiding?
If it was perfectly safe then what would be the problem with all the information being listed?
You may have a different opinion. This is mine.
I believe there is more to this than meets the eye.
YOU are responsible to educate yourself because no one else is going to do it for you.
Please people, I beg of you, do your research, make up your own mind!!
